Wanda Sykes dropped by friend and fellow comedian Jay Leno’s Tonight Show last night. The recently Emmy-nominated comedian talked about the upcoming Emmy awards, Mel Gibson’s rants and motherhood.
Sykes also poked fun at the cancellation of her two shows: CBS’s The New Adventures of Old Christine and her Fox talk show “The Wanda Sykes Show.” She even took jabs at her former network over the cancellation. “I wasn’t shocked,” Sykes said. “I mean it’s Fox, come on, they’re jackasses.”

ESPN recently re-aired the E:60 episode featuring the segment on the South Africa’s shameful exercise of corrective rape. In this heart-wrenching episode, show host Jeremy Schaap interviewed South African women soccer players about the heinous practice aimed to punish a lesbian and “correct” her sexuality. Many of South Africa’s women soccer players are openly gay despite the country’s lax attitude toward gay-fueled crimes and few legal protections afforded its victims.
These brave women fought back tears at times as they retold their personal corrective rape experiences as well as the stories of those who didn’t live to tell their own.

Queen Latifah was all aglow as she promoted her new book, “Put On Your Crown: Life-Changing Moments on the Path To Queendom,” on CNN’s Larry King Live last night (July 9th). Born Dana Owens, the accomplished rapper/actress takes readers through certain life changing moments and how she dealt with it, not in a preachy way, but conversation-style – from her experience dealing with being molested at the age of 5 to her brother Lance’s death to how she almost went broke.
“Putting on your crown is really like accepting the fact that you are a queen,” Latifah explained. “Wherever you are in life, just keep on that path…as women, we forget that about ourselves. So, putting on your crown is sort of reminding yourself that, hey, I’m a queen, and I can do what I want in this life and take it.”
Latifah spoke of the need for Read the rest of this entry »
