It doesn’t look like the controversy surrounding Tribeca Film Festival selection, “Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives” is dying down anytime soon. The comedic film came under fire after the trailer was released and some took offense to the scenes of gory violence against the transwomen.
Here’s a quick synopsis of the film. It’s about a group of transwomen who are violently bashed by three straight guys and left for dead. The women, however, survive, regain consciousness, and then seek revenge on the three men who bashed them.
According to the film’s writer and director, Israel Luna, Read the rest of this entry »

Monday night (March 15) was the premiere of VH1’s new reality show TRANSform Me, and O-M-G I loved it! I have to admit, I was a bit thrown by the realization the women who are to be made over aren’t told ahead of time their makeover team is made up of transgendered women, so the cameras catch the participants initial reaction to the fact. I didn’t know if to take that as VH1 trying to exploit the makeover team or what. I mean, the first makeover was on a woman in Mobile, Alabama. No shade Alabama, but you are the deep south. Anywho, my concern subsided once I saw how the show taught the women style, to find inner love and promoted tolerance. Plus, Laverne Cox was a great host. All the ladies did a great job.
Overall, I give the first episode two thumbs up.

It is heart-warming to see a celebrity of Janet Jackson’s caliber lend her name, image, and most of all time to a project such as this. Many A-Listers shy away from hard-hitting issues relating to the LGBT community, let alone the transgender sector. Ms. Jackson truly exemplifies leadership and strength. It was not too long ago that her Read the rest of this entry »

New York transwoman Angelina Mavilia has filed a lawsuit against San Francisco 49ers cornerback Eric Green alleging the player forcibly sodomized her.
According to court documents, Mavilia and Green met at a casino in Arizona back in 2009 when Green was a cornerback for the Cardinals. The two stopped off at Green’s condo after dinner where they engaged in consensual sex. Things went south when, according to court documents, sex became painful for Malivia, causing Green to ask her if there was “anything she wanted to tell him.” Green then allegedly held Malivia down and sodomized her. Malivia asserts Green “became extremely agitated and threatening, stating, Read the rest of this entry »

After a long-fought battle for inclusion of gender identity and expression in Cleveland’s anti-discrimination laws, LGBT activists in that city finally get to see the fruits of their labor. On Monday, the City Council expand existing anti-discrimination law to include its transgender citizens. The city code will now prohibit businesses from denying jobs or housing to citizens for reasons of age, race, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity.
The measure was pushed through with the help of the council’s first openly gay member, Joe Santiago.
