Former MTV VJ La La Vazquez is the latest celebrity to lend their image to the NoH8 Campaign, a silent protest against the passage of Prop 8, spearheaded by photographer Adam Bouska.

Well duh!
A new study out of the University of Florida produced results that contradict previously and erroneously held beliefs that newly registered African-Americans who voted for Barack Obama were the ones to blame for voting to constitutionally ban same-sex marriage. The new study found “education is about five (5) times more important than race” when determining whether voters in Florida supported the ban on gay marriage in 2008.
Dan Smith, the coauthor of the Florida study, also agreed with a study done by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute (NGLTF) which uncovered the National Exit Poll, which was the source of the erroneous “proof” African-Americans voted in large numbers in support of such marriage bans, consistently overrepresented Read the rest of this entry »

The West Hollywood City Council plans to unveil a plaque in honor of gay marriage, inscribed with a quote from continued activist and former South African president Nelson Mandela. Actor Isaiah Washington is the latest celebrity to join celebrity photographer Adam Bouska’s NoH8 Campaign, a photo project & silent protest against the passage of Prop 8. Washington’s participation may come as a shock to many following the very public debacle back in 2007 stemming from his usage of anti-gay slurs on the set of Grey’s Anatomy, ultimately leading to his dismissal from the cast.

Chandra Wilson, known to most of you as Dr. Miranda Bailey on Grey’s Anatomy, has taken on a new role in the Broadway hit, Chicago. In a role previously held by Queen Latifah in the film version, Chandra plays prison warden Mama Morton. Chandra told the Advocate she plans to bring her own look, walk and demeanor to the role and has no qualms about playing an impliedly gay character.

The California Supreme Court upheld the ban on gay marriage put in place by the approval of Proposition 8 by voters, November 2008. However, the 18,000+ marriages that took place prior to the Prop 8 ban will remain valid.
