In downtown Cleveland, Ohio I had the opportunity to interview up and coming producer/songwriter, Lady Trauma. Born Tara Lee Jenkins, Lady Trauma has the streets of Cleveland saying, “Damn a girl did that?” Catching the ear of Dru Hill’s Nokio, Lady Trauma has recently signed a deal with Nokio’s Audio Revolution Group and has been affiliated with the likes of Jim Jones and power couple, Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys. After a near brush with death, Lady Trauma speaks on how she has overcome her own personal trauma and her upcoming compilation “Welcome 2 Tha Trauma Unit, Vol. 1”. Read the rest of this entry »

Christopher Street TV producer Dwight Allen O’Neal celebrated his 25th and 26th birthdays at Madame X in New York City on Saturday night (January 9). The paparazzi-themed event was nothing short of a production. With a publicity stunt that included a venue change just days before the party, guests could only imagine what was in store. The event came equipped with a hot male model runway show, a roped off VIP area, music by DJs Likwuid and Raydar of Rebel Starr, followed by three, yes THREE after parties.
As for celebrating two birthdays in one, Dwight had this to say about the dual celebration, “2009 started off at a rocky start for me and I missed my 25thbirthday, so why not celebrate it the same year that I celebrate 10 yrs being in the entertainment industry.”
The Who’s Who of the LGBT community also came out to celebrate, including: artist Baron; rappers Bry’Nt, Last Offence and King Jabbar; R&B singer Marck Angel; TheFutureForward.net creators Nathan Seven Scott, Cornelius Jones Jr. and Richard Pelzer II; gender-bending performer milDRED, and artist Isaam, just to name a few.

Nineties music producer and former Blackstreet member Teddy Riley talks to none other than TMZ about the altercation that went down between him and his two daughters, Taja and Deja Riley, on December 23rd at his Los Angeles home. The incident first made news on December 29th when Riley’s daughter Taja, 18, accused her father of “stomping, punching and bashing” them before lifting a Rock Band guitar and allegedly threatening to kill them with it. Based on the family feud that went down on Twitter between Teddy, his daughters and his girlfriend Bita, this all started over Teddy’s girlfriends who’s supposedly Deja’s age, 21, and what the daughters describe as a gold digger he met two months ago.
In a statement released days later, Teddy said, “I love my daughters, but I will not allow my children to disrespect me in my home. Perhaps, I should have been a stronger disciplinarian as they were growing up. I worked very hard so that my children would want for nothing. In hindsight, I see that it was a mistake to give them everything they wanted so that they could have the childhood I never had.”
Hmmm. Not saying much, huh? WELL…
Teddy got to talking some more and Read the rest of this entry »

March 1st, 2009Celebrities, Culture, Entertainment, Film, Lee Daniels, Movies, Spotlight
Hello all my BGG readers,
Happy 1st day of March!
This month’s BGG spotlight is on Lee Daniels.
He’s produced films that make a raw and powerful statement including, “Shadowboxer,” “The Woodsman,” and box office sensation, “Monster’s Ball.” In fact, he became the first sole black producer of an Academy Award-earning film with Monster’s Ball.
A Harlem resident, he was tapped by former president Bill Clinton to produce a PSA to encourage young people of color to go out and vote. The effective campaign was launched in March 2004 featuring LL Cool J and Alicia Keys.
Daniels identifies as gay and is the father to two children.
Lee Daniels – creative, risk-taking and out. That’s why he’s earned a BGG Spotlight.
