If the plight of the black model in the fashion industry was compared to the civil rights movement then Bethann Hardison is to the blacks in the fashion equality movement what Rosa Parks was to the civil rights movement. Hardison is a world renown living legend to say the least – a legendary model, muse, agent , and overall fashion force to be reckoned with. This is a woman who has made it her life’s mission to advance the black model to the status of that of their primarily Caucasian counterparts. She not only discovered Veronica Webb, Talisa Soto, and the one and only male supermodel Tyson Beckford, she also coached Naomi Campbell, yes, Naomi Campbell.
Bethann Hardison is an advocate who used her extensive background in fashion to help Read the rest of this entry »

The good people over at Maxim were gracious enough to give us an intimate look at what it was like to be on the set of actress/model Dania Ramirez’s shoot for the mag. Unforgettably known for her role in the (dreadful) lesbian-themed Spike Lee flick “She Hate Me,” the actress plays a character named Alex again, this time as her role in the new season of the HBO series Entourage.

Calvin Klein, the designer whose advertisement campaigns are just as known as his clothing, has enlisted rising French model David Agbodji for his Spring 2010 advertisement campaign. It’s always noteworthy when a major designer entrust the image of their business to a black model. Let’s not forget, this is the same man who used actor Djimon Hounsou sometime ago for an underwear campaign.

Shot by Steven Klein in his campaign debut, David certainly represents BLACK with power, confidence, and emotion. Calvin Klein’s consistence use of black models should Read the rest of this entry »

Hey BGG readers! This is Soul returning with my latest installment of Soul Wants To Know…There’s so much going on in the WORLD of celebrity, and thus so much to say! I’m so happy I get to express my thoughts, comments, & questions with you all.
So here we go…
1. How nice it must be to live the life of Amber Rose? ( I mean she gets photographed by the paps on the daily, does random photoshoots, and goes club hopping and gets paid) How FAB!! P.S. I’m still waiting for the identity of her girlfriend-cause you know theirs one or more!

2. So why is Keri Hilson acting like she had this ground breaking year in 2009? Girl you were nothing but a feature artist and your biggest hits were all collabos. Her album is slated to drop in March of this year. Here’s hoping her music isn’t the waste of a compact disc, digital download, hell even a YouTube view!!
3. OK, so Tyra Banks is going to have two modeling competitions on TV or is ANTM ending because that show has had 20,000 seasons and the models never make it to Americas Top anything? I mean do you call soap operas and commercials top modeling, uh… NO!
4. Ok, so Michelle Obama-First lady of The United States of America, WHO IN THE HELL GAVE YOU THAT BOB?? Apparently they’re not finished because I’d think if you’re styling the First Lady’s hair, you would make that one hell of a BOB! What, are they scared to touch her hair or something… I could have did a better cut than that!
5. I heart Jennifer Lopez but don’t you wish she would Read the rest of this entry »

Could it be these nationwide open calls for contestants to appear on America’s Next Top Model are just publicity stunts?
According to the NY Daily News, sources allege that some girls are chosen by producers to appear on the show at private tryouts. A show insider revealed, “The producers had already picked some of the girls they wanted in private meetings. They had to sign agreements promising not to reveal how they were chosen.”
Dehea Abraham, eager to tryout for the show, flew up from Atlanta to participate in the March 14th open call, only to be discouraged by a friend. According to Abraham, “My friend Read the rest of this entry »
