March 11th, 2010Celebrities, Entertainment, Movies, Queen Latifah
After spending last summer in NY shooting the film, the trailer for the much anticipated film, Just Wright, starring Queen Latifah and Common has finally been released. The film is a romantic comedy starring Queen Latifah as a physical therapist who finds herself falling for a professional basketball player, played by Common, while rehabilitating him from a career-threatening injury. Paula Patton also stars in the film as Common’s gold-digging, opportunistic girlfriend. You already know I’m a big Queen Latifah fan; so if I could pre-order the tickets, it would already be done!
Just Wright hits theaters May 14th

Shock Jock Howard Stern verbally attacked actress Gabourey Sidibe and her future in Hollywood during a recent broadcast of his radio show. Stern delivered his critique in typical Stern fashion when he repeatedly referred to the Precious actress as enormous, even referring to her as “the most enormous fat black chick I’ve ever seen.” The unflattering rant continued as he pondered the kind of roles she would be able to land stating, “everyone’s pretending she’s going to be a part of show business, it’s just ludicrous…she’s never going to be in another movie.”
According to Stern, she should have won the Oscar for Best Actress because “she never going to have another shot.” Adding insult to injury, Stern even suggested the only role she would be able to attain is as a Read the rest of this entry »

As predicted, comedienne-actress Mo’Nique took home Oscar gold for her role as Mary Jones in the film Precious. Mo’Nique was nominated and won in the category of Best Supporting Actress. Mo’Nique now makes the 5th African-American woman to win an Oscar for acting. Recognizing the fact, Mo’Nique paid homage to Hattie McDaniel, the first African-American woman to win an Oscar, by wearing a flower in her hair, as did McDaniel, and giving mention of the trailblazer in her acceptance speech.Check out video of Mo’Nique & Hattie’s acceptance speech after the jump… Read the rest of this entry »

Jean-Michel Basquiat, an American artist hailing from Brooklyn, NY, was the first African-American painter to gain international notoriety, with a style known as Neo-expressionist. The infamous artist was once romantically involved with then-unknown Madonna and at some point, had a brief involvement with painter David Bowes. Unfortunately, Basquiat passed away in 1988 at the age of 27 and at the height of his career, from a drug overdose.
More than twenty years since his death, never-before seen footage of the artist is featured in a new documentary titled “The Radiant Child,” which was released February 21st.
