R&B diva Mary J. Blige has signed on to play “The High Priestess of Soul” Nina Simone in a biopic on the legendary singer. The film, titled “Nina,” will concentrate on the latter years of Simone’s life and her relationship with assistant Clifton Henderson, played by David Oyelowo.
Oyelowo’s past credits include “The Last King of Scotland,” “A Raisin in the Sun” and “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency,” starring Jill Scott. Janet Jackson has her sights set on a new acting role. And no, it’s not another Tyler Perry movie. The singer-actress revealed to Jet her interest in playing singer Eartha Kitt in a movie biopic.
“I adore her and I had the opportunity to spend time with her,” said Janet. “She had expressed wanting me to portray her and was excited about the idea of me portraying her in a film.”

Accomplished actress Kerry Washington, known for her non-stereotypical and daring roles, is excited to embark on a new project alongside the cute and ever-bubbly actress Kristin Chenoweth. Chenoweth made it known since last year of her interest in having Washington play her lesbian lover in the Dusty Springfield biopic.
