March 24th, 2009Entertainment, RuPaul's Drag Race, Television
RuPaul may soon be unofficially dubbed “Dr. Phil for Drag Queens.” What are we talking about? Obviously, you didn’t see last night’s reunion show for RuPaul’s Drag Race.
We got a two-for-one last night when Logo aired the finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race, followed by the reunion show.
They got it right in the finale when Bebe Zahara Benet was crowned the winner of the competition. Her talent, ability, and professionalism remained consistent throughout the show making her the obvious choice. And I’m proud to say BGG was rooting for her all the way. Now if I only had the same luck with the lotto. ..::shrug::. Eh!
And before we had a chance to revel in Bebe’s win, the cast reunion show was dumped in our laps.
So soon? That’s what I said too.
The reunion show, however, was hilarious – from RuPaul joking on Akashia for the stain on her dress to Shannel ripping into Santino to RuPaul’s dramatic speech at the end encouraging the girls to always believe in themselves despite anyone else’s opinion.
Loved it all!!
But all jokes aside, whether you were glued to your screens every Monday night or thought this show fell short in the entertainment department, it did accomplish one thing. It introduced the world of drag into the households of those having varying degrees of exposure to the drag world. While rooting for a winner, viewers’ thoughts and perception of drag queens was being altered and renewed. We were educated as well as entertained. We saw a side of drag queens never before presented to us. And for that, I say kudos to you Ru!
