A bunch of protesters out in West Seattle took over a nearby Target, equipped with a band and choreographed dance routines, to bring attention to the controversy surrounding Target’s $150,000 donation to an anti-gay, anti-worker gubernatorial candidate in Minnesota.

Here’s a little background. In January 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled corporations could spend unlimited money in our elections. In July, Target made the controversial donation. As recently as last week, a quarter million people pledged to boycott Target. Ok, caught up.

After an 11 month missing persons search, the skeletal remains of Mitrice Richardson were stumbled upon in a remote area of Malibu Canyon by park rangers searching for marijuana plants.

As you may recall, Mitrice was last seen before stepping out of the Lost Hills/Malibu Sheriff’s Station into the early morning darkness. Since that time there had been intense pressure to find the young woman including: a People magazine cover, the involvement of Congresswoman Maxine Waters, several press conferences called by her family as well as those by law enforcement, a lawsuit and false sightings reported from areas spanning the Pacific Ocean coastline to Las Vegas.

U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker handed down his ruling yesterday (August 4th) overturning California’s Proposition 8 ballot initiative banning same-sex marriage. Judge Walker ruled Prop 8 is “unconstitutional under both the due process and equal protection clauses.”

Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura has temporarily suspended his department’s five-year undercover operation at Newark’s Branch Brook Park following the shooting death of Atlanta resident DeFarra Gaymon.

On July 16,^th Atlanta CEO DeFarra Gaymon (48), known as “Dean”, was fatally shot and killed by undercover detective Edward Esposito (29) at Branch Brook Park of Newark, NJ.  The victim’s family is outraged and demands answers from the Essex County authorities.

Earlier in the day, Detective Esposito had been patrolling the known cruising area in Branch Brook Park. ESPN recently re-aired the E:60 episode featuring the segment on the South Africa’s shameful exercise of corrective rape. In this heart-wrenching episode, show host Jeremy Schaap interviewed South African women soccer players about the heinous practice aimed to punish a lesbian and “correct” her sexuality. Many of South Africa’s women soccer players are openly gay despite the country’s lax attitude toward gay-fueled crimes and few legal protections afforded its victims.

These brave women fought back tears at times as they retold their personal corrective rape experiences as well as the stories of those who didn’t live to tell their own.

ABC’s failure to respond to the public’s demands that Sherri Shepherd and D.L. Hughley’s erroneous comments made during The View on HIV/AIDS and African-American gay and bi-sexual men be corrected and an on-air apology be issued is really pissing us off, and we’re not the only ones.
