We caught up with filmmaker Tiona McClodden, the writer and director of the highly-acclaimed full length documentary, “black./womyn.: conversations with lesbians of African descent.” This poignant film has made the film festival rounds both nationally and internationally, receiving several awards, and was recently released on DVD. After watching this film for the first time, I felt it was a must-see for all self-identifying lesbian/queer women of African descent whether in the closet, out for a week, a year or ten years. In fact, lesbians of all ethnic backgrounds could benefit from seeing this film. The stories shared by this diverse group of lesbian women were both affirming and reinforcing. In our interview, Tiona shared her inspiration for the film, her own personal coming out story, details about her latest project “Baby Makes Me,” featuring Staceyann Chin, and her hopes and desires for the black lesbian community going forward. One of my fave shows from back in the day, The A Team, is making it to the big screen – but not without controversy. The UFC fighter & aspiring actor, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, who plays B.A. Baracus in the film, a role originally played by Mr. T., has come under scrutiny for homophobic remarks.
The L.A. Times caught up with Rampage on the set of “The A-Team” while on location in Vancouver, Canada.
The interview started off rocky when the interviewer entered Jackson’s trailer to discover him going off about an incident that recently occurred. What happened? Read the rest of this entry »
