Mary J. Blige partnered with the popular beauty company Carol’s Daughter and HSN (Home Shopping Network) to release her new fragrance “My Life”. Mary sold 50,000 bottles in just the first day of sales, which is remarkable considering the fragrance could only be purchased online or on TV (HSN).

Making her eighth appearance, the undisputed “Queen of Hip/Hop Soul” did the damn thing at the 2010 Essence Music Festival. Besides performing on the main stage, the nine-time Grammy award-winner also unveiled her new fragrance line and handled dealings for release of her new eye-wear line called “Melodies”. “I’m in New Orleans at essence Festival, about 2 go 2 the Convention Center. R&B diva Mary J. Blige has signed on to play “The High Priestess of Soul” Nina Simone in a biopic on the legendary singer. The film, titled “Nina,” will concentrate on the latter years of Simone’s life and her relationship with assistant Clifton Henderson, played by David Oyelowo.
Oyelowo’s past credits include “The Last King of Scotland,” “A Raisin in the Sun” and “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency,” starring Jill Scott. The figures are in from last week’s charitable event, “Idol Gives Back,” in which celebrity performers graced the stage of American Idol in an effort to raise funds for several different charities. According to AI, this year’s fundraising event raised more than $45 million for beneficiaries, which include: Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save The Children’s U.S. Programs and the United Nations Foundation.
Queen Latifah emceed the event. Performers and appearances also included Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas, Elton John, Common, Wanda Sykes and Joss Stone, just to name a few.

It’s that time of year again — American Idol auditions. So, you already know what to expect. On last night’s episode, R&B singer Mary J. Blige sat in as a judge for the Atlanta leg of auditions and was unexpectedly cursed out by Idol hopeful Lamar Royal of North Carolina.
Lamar came before the judges to sing his rendition of Seal’s “Kiss From A Rose,” and you guessed it, bombed. Blige attempted to offer the Idol wannabe some pearls of wisdom: “You have to find some humility in order to do this and pull back. Stop trying to exalt yourself. And that’s what you’re doing, you’re running. So, just relax.”
Unfortunately, not only was Lamar a bad singer, he also proved to be a bad listener, as he continued to sing over the judges’ feedback before cursing them out. “Just f*ck the whole damn American Idol show,” said Lamar as he was being escorted out of the building by security. “F*ck Mary J.
