After an 11 month missing persons search, the skeletal remains of Mitrice Richardson were stumbled upon in a remote area of Malibu Canyon by park rangers searching for marijuana plants.

As you may recall, Mitrice was last seen before stepping out of the Lost Hills/Malibu Sheriff’s Station into the early morning darkness. Since that time there had been intense pressure to find the young woman including: a People magazine cover, the involvement of Congresswoman Maxine Waters, several press conferences called by her family as well as those by law enforcement, a lawsuit and false sightings reported from areas spanning the Pacific Ocean coastline to Las Vegas.

Finally this week, however, her remains were found within two miles of the same Lost Hills/Malibu Sheriff’s Station from where she was released in September 2009.  I want to throw my computer right now. I truly felt like she was alive somewhere in Las Vegas after the last round of reported Vegas sightings.

According to the LA Times, Sheriff’s officials say there is no sign of foul play. Nor do they believe she fell to her death. A spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office estimated that her remains had been there at least six months, or possibly the entire time she had been missing.

Even though the question of where is Mitrice Richardson has now been answered, the question still remains why was the sheriff’s station so thoughtless to send a young girl out into the pitch black night on foot?   WTF were they thinking? Did they even care enough to give it a moment’s thought? Obviously not.

Our prayers go out to Mitrice Richardson’s family, friends and those like us who were touched by her story and hopeful of her safe return.

Take a look at the clip below taken at a news conference where apparently Mitrice’s father was notified of the findings at the same time of the conference. The second video is of an interview with Mitrice’s mom who says she was notified not by the police, but by a reporter.  This story gets sadder and sadder.

  1. this is really sad. i am glad the family is suing their asses. they were dead wrong.

  2. THOSE FUCKS IN THE POLICE DPT DON’T GIVE A DAMN. THEY JUST TRYING TO CYA.

  3. @Kimi interesting choice of words, “dead wrong”??? Thanks for stating the obvious.

  4. So they said. Her body been down there for 6months because that means sombody did move her body ,and there is. Some sort of foul play and they are covering it up

  5. This girl died over a $89 restaurant bill. Tragic isn’t even the word. She should have been issued a citation to appear in court and sent on her way. Now the Malibu police have her blodd on their hands.

  6. This is so sad. I work at a County Jail and have argued so many times against releasing females at certain hours ( 1am-6am typically). I live in a large city and sometimes the females come in from the club in provacative clothing and are released onto the mean streets with nothing. I try to tell them to wait in the lobby for a ride and will give them numbers to taxis and such if they have no one. I’ve called boyfriends, friends and parents for them on occassion just so someone knows where they are.
LEGALLY you cannot detain them more than a few hours(per Title 15) and yes this poor girl should have been cited. I haven’t heard if she refused to sign the cite which means she HAS to be brought into jail and held until she signs. Certain charges are als non-citable.
Earlier articles said she was acting strangely so she should have gone to the hospital for a pysch eval and released from there.
Something has to change bc I am sick if young girls being brought at a reasonable hour and released to danger at 3am in a tiny skirt and heels. I hope the state creates new laws as a result of this case.
I pray this girl’s family. Truly a tragedy but a wake up jail for sure. I am bringing this article into work with me to hopefully enlighten some of the ” good ole boys” that YES some extra consideration or at least advice shouls be given when releasing someone at 3am

  7. I cannot even begin to image what her parents are going through right now and if it is worse than what they were going through last week??? Somebody needs to pay for this becuz there are just no words to even describe the negligence of the police. People who are supposed to protect and serve are endangering young women, apparently from fourpaws comment, all over the country. There does need to be a change becuz this just ain’t right.

  8. I almost cried when I found out they had found her remains. I had JUST read a story the day before on cnn.com saying that a childhood friend has spotted her in Vegas recently. I had such high hopes. This is nothing short of a tragedy. Even though she wasn’t a minor, the police department STILL should have made sure she was released into the care of someone close to her. There’s no reason why they should have released her in the middle of the night, to walk alone. No reason at all. I cannot wait until the truth comes out and we found out who is fully responsible for this tragedy. It’s so sad.

  9. @afrolez

I totally agree with you. The police probably killed the young girl, realized that her parents, loved ones, and dedicated cop watchers weren’t going to let this slide, and dumped her remains in a way that would finally “solve” the case. I hope her parents can somehow cope.

    fuck the cops

  10. My prayers go out to her family.

  11. dis shit right here is the most fukked up i hav seen in mayB eva fukk the cops is rite they dont even giv a shit they wouldnt hav done tht shit to some malibu blond barbi.

  12. This is so horrible. May she rest in peace.

  13. And people wonder why black folks do not trust the cops. Why we don’t like them. Why we won’t cooperate with them. THIS is the very reason right here. This very beautiful young lady did not have to die. What’s worse, even some brainless LGBT people try to blame her for what happened. This is why we don’t trust some whites and the cops. Not because we are trying to be racists (I am the product of interracial relationships so I know what I’m talking about) rather because these two groups have shown time and time again that they don’t give a damn about us, what happens to us or how we are treated and at like we deserve this. Just keep praying for her family.

SMDH, if this was a Becky she wouldn’t even have been arrested. Her folks would have been called to come get her from the restaurant and she would be safe at home with her family. Yes, I just wrote that. I have relatives who work in police departments all over this country so I know what is going on and no one can tell me different, I see it first hand all the damn time. Black men and women across ths country are not making this up. And this is yet another tragic example to show we really are on our own in this country…

  14. I truly felt like she was alive somewhere in Las Vegas after the last round of reported Vegas sightings.
