[Video] Authorities Focus Search For Mitrice Richardson On Las Vegas After “Credible Sighting”

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and LAPD believe Mitrice Richardson, the Cal State Fullerton grad student missing since September 2009, may be in the Las Vegas area. Following what authorities believe to a credible sighting, L.A. investigators have joined forces with Las Vegas authorities to focus their search for Richardson in Vegas.

This comes after a childhood acquaintance, Greg Amerson, informed authorities and a close friend of Mitrice’s mother that he saw Mitrice at the Rio hotel bar around 3 a.m. in June of this year. According to Amerson, he called Mitrice’s name as he approached her from behind, she turned around and looked at him as if she didn’t know him, then seem to recognize him and quickly walked away.

MItrice’s father, Michael Richardson and mother, Latice Sutton, along with other family members and friends have worked tirelessly to find Mitrice and keep media attention on the missing, now 25 year old. Mitrice went missing after being released from the Lost Hills/Malibu Sheriff’s Station on September 16th 2009 after midnight with no wallet, cell phone or transportation (her car was impounded by the Sheriff’s Department). Mitrice had been arrested after being unable to pay her bill at Geoffrey’s Malibu restaurant where she supposedly told restaurant employees she was from Mars and spoke to them in a made-up language. It’s been reported Mitrice suffers from bipolar disorder and based on the behavior she displayed at the restaurant, was not mentally fit to be released at that time of night with no means of getting home.

“I know a lot of people feel like I should be elated,” said Michael Richardson. “But I’m pretty much disgusted because I notified the sheriff’s [office] of a personal sighting, a possible sighting, of Mitrice in Las Vegas in January of this year. By me personally, when I was out there. So I just think what their efforts are doing now is a reaction based on the filing of a lawsuit yesterday (July 27).”

Sutton believes her daughter is being held against her will. “Someone has taken my daughter across state lines, and the FBI, I want to know, where are they?” Sutton said.

Authorities held a press conference in Vegas yesterday (July 29th) urging Mitrice to come forward, assuring her she was not in trouble nor would she get arrested.
