New Video: Rihanna “Te Amo” + Commentary

Rihanna’s video for Te Amo has hit the net and she did not disappoint. The video features Rihanna as a dominatrix engaging in a sensual struggle of affection with gorgeous French supermodel Laetitia Casta. The video takes place on the outskirts of Paris at the Château de Vigny.
The video, however, will not be released in the U.S., only internationally.
WARNING!!! I’m about to go on a rant. So buckle up.
Rihanna’s “Te Amo” is best described as artistic and CLASSIC!! Hats off to Rihanna for being brave enough to not only create a song and video about the romance shared between two women but star in the video. And no, it shouldn’t be an indictment of her sexuality, but seen as an artist creating art. In fact, I would be disappointed if Rihanna came out and said she was bisexual on the heels of this video release to justify its creation. It would diminish the value of what was created and seem like a gimmick. The lyrics to Te Amo are beautiful, sensual, and romantic and the video was created to match.
Rihanna didn’t merely have a scene in the video where she flirted with a woman. We’re sick of artists using bisexuality as a gimmick for media attention as well, but this video is not the case. The woman featured in the video was the focal point of the entire video. No artist from the black community, as big of a star as Rihanna, has ever done something close to this at the height of his or her career or even ever. This is EPIC!
Will there be negative backlash? Of course! Because whenever an artist dares to draw outside the lines, people have something to say. Unfortunately, I’m sure many of “us” will lead the angry charge. And to that, I call those people hypocrites if they can support and endorse male artists that feature half-naked women as their “leading lady” or offer images of women in a derogatory manner yet condemn Rihanna for this video.
Rihanna’s “Te Amo” video was tastefully done and comparable to a cinematic treat.
So with all that said, enjoy the video below…

The video did the song justice. At first I thought the song was about a woman coming onto her and she kept pushing her about but the video gives the song new life. It makes the song more romantic.

Epic…fail! I’m not a fan of Rihanna or this song. Why is he acting like a lesbian if she’s not.

kick sand- I SWEAR!! When we’re bashed we complain. When something is done to cater to us we complain. And yes I said cater to us (or at least a more open-minded audience) cause LORD knows she didn’t do this video for the straight black audience. DAmn! Give the girl a break

It’s so refreshing to come on here and read such positive comments. On the other “urban” blogs commenters are offering prayers, quoting bible verses, bashing etc etc. I could just gag it’s so extra. The one most laughable is their criticism that she’s not a lesbian. Well DUH?! Like if she was really a lesbian she would even get the airplay and success she’s achieved.
It’s acting. Get a grip. I enjoy gay-themed movies and I never question whether the actors are gay in real life. I simply enjoy the show.

Rihanna can work some high fashion it’s not like there’s money in music right now anyway thats why all these artists are going into movies and other money making ventures

That’s exactly why it’s not premiering here in the U.S. We’re known for being closed-minded, followers. At least the majority is. So sad

My friend Uche and I were talking about this video. We love it.. We said it was “woman sexy”. Which is how the video should’ve been made. I respect Rihanna so much for her artistically going there for what was needed. She didn’t play to backlash.. she wanted to create an authentic display… and she did.

This right here shows Rihanna’s solidifying her place as an international superstar in the music history books. Haters can continue to hate on her because of the misplaced blame over Chris Brown’s fall from grace, which he brought on himself. But Rihanna ain’t worried about those humpty dumps that ain’t never left their block, she’s not doing it for them. While other artists are doing more of the same, she’s on to the next one. This is how an INTERNATIONAL superstar does. Rihanna’s star will continue to shine. The team she’s got behind her will accept nothing less

Wow! Love the video. Its the best she’s ever done

Can we PLEASE find a word other than “hater”? The word is played. Someone isn’t necessarily “hating” just because they don’t like something. Get a damn grip.

I always say that an artist that is willing to take risks, showing growth outside of the box, is an artist I will listen to 20 years from now. Rihanna has always been that type of artist to me. It’s amazing how eclectically chic her latest album turned out to be. There is a saying, either go in hard or go home. Well, it looks like Miss Rihanna is in it to win it because this latest treatment from her project just firmly planted her on the step of longevity!! Love it, love her!
