Blueprint Director Carves His Own Path With The Film’s New Video Release

Kirk Shannon-Butts, director of the independent black gay feature film Blueprint, gave fans and newcomers alike a little treat for Valentine’s Day.

Following a successful run on the international film festival circuit, Blueprint, the acclaimed black gay indie film debut feature film was released via maverick online film distributor Flickeria.com on February 14th.

Blueprint is the story of Keith and Nathan, two college freshmen in New York City who meander into a very new relationship together. Blueprint has screened in over 30 international film festivals and been nominated for awards at all of the major gay film festivals in New York (NewFest), San Francisco (Frameline), Los Angeles (Outfest) and London (Gay & Lesbian) as well as the film market at the Cannes Film Festival.

Leading film festivals such as Frameline said, “Blueprint is a bold new direction in queer and African American cinema.” Mainstream gay media, Metro Weekly, wrote, “Kirk is definitely a director to watch.” Nevertheless, the top gay film distributors including Strand Releasing and TLA Releasing passed on the refreshing story of two young Black men discovering first love, while practically any film about white and Asian gay men gets a deal. Black and Latino men continue to be edited out.

Not this time, as Shannon-Butts created FLICKERIA.COM to distribute and produce films about modern gay men – ALL GAY MEN – with a conscious eye on Black gay men.

Thanks for the heads up on this one, and, sadly, it shows that black gays are still out in no where man’s land with gay distributors, they crank out that same old tired white boys in the gym trash and, the ones with Asians chasing white boys in the gym as if they can’t live without them with no problem.

Yes, “they” don’t care much about showing GBM on screen, unless the GBM is hopelessly in love with some White guy, or is being rescued
from some terrible situation by some White guy, etc. etc. Showing GBM in love with, or
pursuing, GASP, a-n-o-t-h-e-r GBM???? Perish
the thought!!!! They do not want to showcase
that….might give the snowqueens who cater to
them the wrong ideas.
