Alicia Keys performed several tracks off her new album, “The Element of Freedom,” during a recent installment of AOL Sessions.
She performed “Un-thinkable (I’m Ready),” along with four other tracks off the album, including: “Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart,” “Empire State of Mind II,” “Doesn’t Mean Anything,” and “No One,” as well as her classic, “Fallin‘.”

Well, not in those words exactly. But that was the gist of her open letter to the animal rights organization.
Kelis, who was recently photographed wearing a whole lotta fur and leather, actually received a personalized letter from PETA for her fashion choice. So, after some deliberation, the singer decided to write one back.

Singer Omarion passed through BET’s 106 & Park to promote his new album “Ollusion” and to perform his single “Hoodie.” Surprisingly, Omarion’s mom also came on stage to perform part of the choreographed number. Looks like talent runs deep in that family.

Accomplished actress Kerry Washington, known for her non-stereotypical and daring roles, is excited to embark on a new project alongside the cute and ever-bubbly actress Kristin Chenoweth. Chenoweth made it known since last year of her interest in having Washington play her lesbian lover in the Dusty Springfield biopic.
Washington is thrilled with the idea of taking on the role. She told E! Many are stepping forward to offer relief to the people of Haiti following the devastating earthquake that struck the island Tuesday evening (January 12).
Haitian-born rapper Wyclef Jean hit the media outlets immediately following the tragedy with a public plea for people to extend help to the victims of this the natural disaster. Wyclef, a notorious advocate for his homeland, established the non-profit Yele Haiti Foundation back in 2004, which provides scholarships for the country’s children. Wyclef is encouraging people to text “Yele” to 501501, which will automatically donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund (the charge will appear on your phone bill) or visit Yele.org and click “donate” to help.
The LGBT community has also stepped forward to offer assistance. The Rainbow World Fund, an international relief agency based in the LGBT and friends community, contributed $40,000 in relief funds to Haiti. The organization is currently collecting donations from LGBT people across the globe, with 100% of donations going to emergency food, safe water, shelter, blankets and basic medicines for the victims.

It’s that time of year again — American Idol auditions. So, you already know what to expect. On last night’s episode, R&B singer Mary J. Blige sat in as a judge for the Atlanta leg of auditions and was unexpectedly cursed out by Idol hopeful Lamar Royal of North Carolina.
Lamar came before the judges to sing his rendition of Seal’s “Kiss From A Rose,” and you guessed it, bombed. Blige attempted to offer the Idol wannabe some pearls of wisdom: “You have to find some humility in order to do this and pull back. Stop trying to exalt yourself. And that’s what you’re doing, you’re running. So, just relax.”
Unfortunately, not only was Lamar a bad singer, he also proved to be a bad listener, as he continued to sing over the judges’ feedback before cursing them out. “Just f*ck the whole damn American Idol show,” said Lamar as he was being escorted out of the building by security. “F*ck Mary J. Real Housewives of Atlanta star Sheree Whitfield has decided to try her hand at theater in the Kendrick D. Young stage play, “Heaven I Need A Hug.” The play also stars R&B singers Dave Hollister and Tony Grant.
Whitfield began rehearsals in Dallas this past Monday (January 11). “I have so much respect [for] actors who really know their craft. They make it look so effortless,” said Whitfield following rehearsals this week. Although this is her first time on stage, word is she’s not bad. “Yall she’s gon b a star!,” said co-star Hollister of Whitfield’s performance.
Actors Darrin Henson, Robin Givens, and singer Ruben Studdard were part of the cast in previous runs.
“Heaven I Need A Hug” runs from January 19th to the 24th at the Granville Arts Center in Dallas, Texas.
In other related news, Whitfield and fellow RHOA castmates were recently nominated for a NAACP Image Award.

Legendary R&B singer Teddy Pendergrass died yesterday (January 13) at Bryn Mawr hospital in Philadelphia at the age of 59. According to the singer’s son, Teddy Pendergrass II, the senior Pendergrass underwent colon cancer surgery eight months ago and had “a difficult recovery.”
Pendergrass started his career as a member of the Blue Notes before embarking on a solo career. He was best known for his steamy, sultry lyrics and hits such as “Close The Door,” “Love TKO,” and “Turn Off The Lights.” Rumors began to swirl about Pendergrass’ sexuality following the 1982 car accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. The story goes Pendergrass was giving a transsexual “acquaintance,” nightclub performer Tenika Watson, a drop home after the club when he suddenly lost control of his Rolls Royce.
