Maine Marriage Equality Defeated At The Polls
0

Yesterday (November 3), voters in Maine approved a ballot initiative that repealed same-sex marriage rights in the state, with a vote of “Yes on 1.” One represents the 1st question on the ballot, which asked if voters would like to repeal the law which allowed same-sex couples to obtain marriage licenses. The margin of success was slim with only 53% of the votes.
Voters in Maine happened to undo the progress made this past May (2009) when the state’s legislature passed through the bill that gave marriage equality to same-sex couples.
While some anti-gay supporters will use this win to further support their warped agenda, the closeness in votes demonstrates their victories will not be easily won.
