Petty Officer Jonathan Campos, a gas system technician, was charged with the murder of openly gay Navy Seaman August Provost. Provost was shot and killed at Camp Pendelton in California back on June 30 while on duty. His guard shack was burned in an effort to cover up the commission of the crime. At the time of the killing, Campos was allegedly attempting to break into a secure area and set fire to a hovercraft. However, there have been rumors Provost was killed out of fears he was going to “out” the alleged killer’s sexuality.
The Navy has decided not to pursue this case as a hate crime. Campos is being held at the Miramar Marine Corps Air Station awaiting a hearing to determine whether sufficient evidence exist to move forward with a trial.

I truly don’t understand what kind of person you must be to take another’s life, and in so horrible a fashion. I just can’t understand it.
