Obama Sends Message To U.N.: Homosexuality Is Not Criminal!

March 18th, 2009Culture
Obama says “yes we can” to the worldwide decriminalization of homosexuality.
According to the Associated Press, yesterday U.S. officials notified France, the sponsors of this measure, the U.S. will sign the United Nations declaration calling for the worldwide decriminalization of homosexuality.
The official, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated “the United States was concerned about ‘violence and human rights abuses against gay, lesbian, transsexual and bisexual individuals’ and was also ‘troubled by the criminalization of sexual orientation in many countries.’”
Some may see Obama’s support of this measure as baby steps in the fight for gay rights or a trivial gesture. Really haters?!?! Stop your complaining!! The man has been in office less than 100 days.
Obama’s decision to throw support behind this measure is anything but a whisper, it’s more of an exclamation.
Despite our present troubles as a nation, America has been historically looked to as the example. When we speak, the rest of the world listens, takes note, and emulates, whether it be our ideologies or culture. So why would a stand for gay rights be any different?
The Bush administration refused to sign the declaration when presented with it back in December, which garnered it heavy criticism for being the only Western nation that refused to sign. Obama’s support of this declaration further sets him apart from his predecessor.
A distinction we appreciate.

I had my best Obama dream yet the other night. Wanna hear it, here it goes…..
I was an intern at the White House….
Obama: You know Michelle is growing suspicious as right she should. We have to put hardworking folks back to work….
Stunned look on my face cuz you know I luv me some Michelle, especially in my dreams…wink*wink…
Me: Okay…I was looking at the information for the world summit, seems like a great opportunity.
Obama: You should go.
Me: Really?
Obama: Absolutely. I’m the President and you’re going.
Me: Okay I would love to. (pause)…Are you going?
Then he smiled slyly and I smiled in return like ooooookkaaaaaaaaaaayyy!!!!
