Mattel Launches New Line Of Black Barbies

October 1st, 2009Culture, Entertainment
On Tuesday (September 29), Mattel announced its launch of a new line of black Barbie dolls featuring “more authentic” features. The new line, called “So In Style,” will consist of dolls with fuller lips, different complexions, more distinctive cheek bones and curly hair (when wet). The dolls, named Grace, Kara, and Trichelle, are best friends and will come with a “little sister” as part of a mentoring theme.
So In Style was developed by Barbie designer, Stacey McBride-Irby, an African-American mother of two who wanted to create a line of dolls that were more reflective of her daughter and the community.
Check out more of the line after the jump…

Oh… I remember seeing the video about this. That’s cool. Even though them barbies still don’t look anymore like me than the other ones.
