Lil Mama Advises Vogue Evolution’s Leiomy To “Act Like A Lady”

Last night’s episode of America’s Best Dance Crew included a major pause moment after Lil Mama’s critique of Vogue Evolution and specifically transgender group member Leiomy.
Prior to the group’s performance, it was revealed Vogue Evolution had a hard week with Leiomy repeatedly missing dance practice and then walking out before dress rehearsal. After the performance, Lil Mama kicked off the critiques calling the performance good not excellent. Apparently linking it to Leiomy’s behavior, Lil Mama chose to direct a bit of “advice” to Leiomy when she told her, “your behavior… is unacceptable….you have to always remember your truth. You were born a man and you are becoming a woman. If you’re going to become a woman, act like a lady. Don’t be a bird…. Even though you’re the face for transgenders, you’re the face for America right now with this group.”
Gasp!
Leiomy looked utterly embarrassed and uncomfortable after Lil Mama’s critique. Hell, she looked PISSED and rightfully so.
Leiomy’s gender transition had nothing to do with the performance. And Lil Mama is certainly no authority on how to act like a lady. Even in the video recap of the group’s week, Leiomy expressed being homesick and from the video, there appeared to be some other underlying issues that may have led to her behavior. Lil Mama’s comment about Leiomy’s sexual identity was insensitive, unnecessary and frankly, disrespectful.
Being a “friend to the gays” does not give one free range to say WHATEVER, WHENEVER.
Whatever Vogue Evolution was going through last week, hopefully they worked it out and continue to keep their eye on the prize and take home the title of America’s Best Dance Crew.
Check out video of the incident below.

So glad something was said about this. Lil Mama was OUT OF ORDER

it was disrespectful JC was much more constructive in feedback

I think she needed to be put in check, but I am not sure if her gender had to be highlighted while doing so.
-
who the hell is lil mama to say what is lady like because from some of her actions she does act like a bird. so what makes her able to say who is and isnt acting like a lady. that was disrespectful because her gender had nothing to do with her dancing i understand that leiomy is under pressure with her situation as well as being on the show but that is no reason to throw it back in her face cuz it was down right insulting

I agree, there was no need to bring up Leiomy’s born gender. JC and Shane gave better crtiques. Who is she to say that women can’t have their off days.

Lil Mama being in the industry knows how temperamental artists can be. So when you get a group of artists together everyone may not be on the same page at all times. That’s what happens, whether it’s a dance group, R&B group, whatever. Never would anything think to bring up gender. That’s just artists being artist. So I really don’t see why Lil Mama had to disrespect Leiomy in that way. Just uncalled for

I know what’s happenin’. Lil’ mama getting too big for her britches, she probably had something to do wit Paula Abdul resignin’ too.

Know your truth? What is that supposed to mean? The truth is Leiomy identifies as being a woman. That’s the only truth Lil Mama needs to be concerned about and it’s irrelevant to the competition.

The Tea
So, let me give yall the real Tea. If any of you know the Ball Scene, you would know Alloura. Well, she passed away last week and that’s Leiomy’s bestie. She wasn’t able to go to the funeral nor pay her respects, which is why Leiyomi acted out in the manner she did. I’m not saying it’s right, but I think I would need a super break if I lost my bestfriend!

As a person who has spoken with Leiomy and I know the ball scene, what is going on with her is she is missing her best friend. the show did not capitalize on the fact that she had lost someone that she loves but lil Ma was wrong and should have been more Tactful in what she said! and I mean if she is going to talk about being a lady it starts at home. SO LIL MA Advice “Start with your self and know the whole story”

Wait! Isn’t Lil Mama gay? I’m just sayin. I mean she does look kinda hard in the facial area?
-
AS a woman who is accepting of all people I understand where Lil’ Mama was coming from. Thanks to The Tea however for setting the record straight which does make me more empathetic towards Leiomy. Being a b*tch or acting rude is NOT an attribute of being a woman. Sometimes transgender and even gay men act b*tchy thinking that’s being feminine and a diva. It ain’t cute when women do it and it really ain’t cute when a man does it. What Lil’ Mama was saying is that being a woman takes more work than just being rude with a sense of entitlement. What Lil’ Mama meant was to be professional and a team player. Fooling with Hollywood you never know who’s watching and what their futures may hold. Hollywood will blackball you before you get started!!

again thanks for the T because that is understandable if u are in a situation like this and cant pay respect to somebody u love u have to hide ur emotions and it does tend to explode every man and woman knows that and i feel that leiomy’s gender has nothin to do with the dance i say shane said it best its about the end product not how u get there u would have never known that there were any backstage issues if the tape didnt show it b4 they danced. lil mama isnt that important flat out i dont see why she is even judging this show. but i am very sorry for the loss of Alloura and my prayers are for leiomy
-
First and foremost, idk why she is there as a judge in the first place, i dont know her to have any dance training or an artistic eye like JC or SHANE (a former choreographer on SYTYCD). i really dont understand why she is parading to be so much more than what she is. I am not understanding at all what she is giving, she released one album to my knowledge, and has done nothing else, but critique other on how to dance, which i see she clearly hasn’t done any in a while. this is not an attack, the SHAGAT-GOO is They should replace her with Laurieann Gibson or Tina Landon or another legendary female choreographer next season, hell CIARA even, someone that lives for the craft of dance and entertaining the masses and is current! her expiration date is way past due, first season was cute, the second season was ok after the third season she began to be too much! I really hope someone near and dear to her reads these messages and blogs that are being written and said about her because this was beyond unacceptable. it was an attack not only to her (leiomy) but to the LGBT community period!

This is really sad.
Why didn’t Leiomy explain why she was acting the way she did? And if she did, why didn’t MTV show such an important clip? Did they really forbid her from going home to visit her friend’s funeral? If so, what makes them think that they can hide something like that.
The bad thing about this is, whether or not Lil Mama was on the wrong foot, the behavior of Leiomy, at least, the one shown by MTV through the pre-performance video, could very well affect the votes. I already have three friends who said that they won’t be voting for Vogue Evolution because they got turned off by her behavior. Now that they found out about Alloura’s death, it’s too late to vote.
I could very well be wrong but I smell some sort of conspiracy behind this whole thing.

i think its a conspiracy too

yeah i was so mad @ lil mama for that i was offended and i’m a woman and not even gay…. but i was like okay… what that gotta do wit anythin… maybe lil mama should take her own advise… a lady wouldnt have said that to leiomy…. keep doin ur thing mama!!!

I’m so glad someone brought this situtation up. I remember watching it when it aired, and as lil mama started running her mouth, even I was offended!
She is so damn rude, and inconsiderate, Leiomy, didn’t ask to be born into the wrong body. She is a woman, born a woman, well ALWAYS be a woman.
Leiomy is beautiful, that’s all!

wow… gay as gay…

I personally think that Lil Mama is full of it, especially after that stupid display on the VMA’s the other night. Who gives her the right to call out Leiomy like that?? And first of all, what experience does she have in the first place to be judging. She’s a one hit wonder. ‘My lip gloss is poppin’..what the hell kinda of song is that?? She made a fool of herself here on the show trying to be a hot shot and she made a fool of herself when she got dissed by Jay Z on the VMA’s when her stupid self got on stage UNINVITED…She needs a reality check..and she needs to build up more and/or enough experience before she can judge people or tell people how to act.
