The producer of The Wendy Williams Show has issued an apology to drag performer Erickatoure Aviance from an incident that occurred at an August 12th taping of the show. It seems as though Aviance was in line to attend a taping of the show when she was told by an intern that her outfit was too flamboyant for the show’s audience. Well, you can imagine the shock Miss Aviance was in considering this was a taping of Wendy Williams‘ show, one of the most flamboyant people on TV.

According to Aviance, “I decided to get dressed for Wendy because I thought she’d appreciate it. It wasn’t anything outlandish: It was a black baby-doll dress, heels, tights, and standard makeup — not even anything sparkly. It was very demure, especially for me.”

Anywho, GLAAD responded to the matter and spoke personally to the show’s production company, Debmar-Mercury. As a result of those talks, Debmar-Mercury executive, Lonnie Burstein issued a formal apology. Burstein states,

“Much of the success of The Wendy Williams Show is due to our incredibly diverse and colorful audience and we all agree that fashion is a true form of self expression. But in an attempt to explain and enforce our show’s dress code, I was not as sensitive as I could have been to Ericka, the LGBT community or drag’s long history of being a target of discrimination.  And for that, I sincerely apologize as it was never my intention to offend in any way.” ~ Lonnie Burstein, Executive Vice President, Programming & Production, Debmar-Mercury

  1. You know Wendy likes to be THE baddest bitch in the room. That’s what THAT was about

  2. @mario LOL! Exactly. Ericka was just trying to get some face time on TV.

  3. I DO NO know WHY sgl people continue to support this gossipy woman. She make lot’s of money off of us. That “how you doin’” tag defames gay people. It’s not cute it is riduculing to hear “straight” people say it. When will peeps understand that?

  4. [...] I am first to admit that I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Wendy Williams radio show but when she came to television she seemed to bring that in your face, I don’t care what you say about me haughtiness that I liked. She was raw, real and uncut. Her audience was the same. Her catch phrase, “How U Doin’?” was on everyone’s lips and let’s just say the boys were in the building. So how could the Wendy Williams Show send a guess home because they were too flamboyant. Get the scoop at Black Gay Gossip.com. READ MORE [...]

  5. Hmmm, she’s trying to clean up her image in order to maintain that day time status. Her potty mouth and typical diatribe can no longer be….that includes flashy alternative folk. Bring it back Wendy…bring it back!

  6. Maybe HE apoogized but SHE didn’t and what she wants she gets. The trauma to Ericacouture is no different than the trauma a bully inflicts on a child in school. This type of homophobia I experienced DAILY as a whiteskinned beauty school student at the Marinello’s on Wilshire in Los Angeles. Its a story that deserves to be told – the little known extreme HATRED that some African-American women have for homosexuals.

I don’t want their men. I did want to learn how to work on textured hair but they spread rumours about me because I wouldn’t share my irons. I was told not to share my expensive irons with the female students or I wouldn’t see them again!

Queen Latifah, or for that matter EricaCouture, this talk show slag ho has NOTHING on you. She wants to BE you!

  7. By the way, Wendy has a large head like a man. Two things transsexuals cannot hide, or have trouble hiding, are the voice and the size of the head. That’s probably why I though she was a transsexual. Daughter? It might be the husband’s from a previous marriage. You sure this homophobic twit has a womb?
