Charles Pugh, a TV reporter turned politician, made history in 2009 as the first openly gay elected official in the city of Detroit. In an overwhelming show of support, Pugh won a seat onto Detroit city council and replaced Cockrel as council president.
Born and raised in Detroit, Pugh rose up from what some might call insurmountable circumstances. Pugh’s mother was murdered when he was only 3 years old. Four years later, Pugh’s father committed suicide when he shot himself in the head just across the hall from Charles’ bedroom, leaving him to make a 911 call no child should ever have to make. Raised by his grandmother, Pugh went on to become an honor student in high school and eventually left Detroit to attend the University of Missouri on a journalism scholarship. He did a stint as a reporter in Virginia and Indiana before returning to his hometown to join the Detroit Fox 2 News team.
Pugh is known for being a very public and positive figure in the LGBT community. Unapologetically gay, Pugh Read the rest of this entry »

New research findings have been released that discuss whether the long-standing belief that a child needs a mother and father in the household is truly accurate when compared to same-gender households.
Sociologist Timothy Biblarz of the USC College of Letter, Arts & Sciences and NYU sociologist Judith Stacey analyzed relevant studies about parenting, including research on single-mothers, single-fathers, gay male parents and lesbian parents. Their analysis found the gender of the parents had little significance on the child’s psychological adjustment and social success.

Oh my! Mehcad, are you looking at ME that way? *blushing* I’m flattered. *giggle* Oh, you have a package for me? You shouldn’t have. LOL.
Ok ok, fantasies aside, actor Mehcad Brooks, formerly of “True Blood” and now on “The Deep End,” is one of four actors and athletes recently chosen as the new faces of Calvin Klein Underwear ads. Thank you Mr. Calvin. Great minds think alike I see.
Brooks, along with actor Kellan Lutz, tennis player Fernando Verdasco and soccer star Hidetoshi Nakata, will appear in ads for the new “X” line, including digital films for the line’s website.

History making superstar -She Ain’t No D-I-V-A- Beyoncé Knowles appeared at the Macy’s Herald Square NYC to promote her debut fragrance, Heat. The singer held a meet & greet and signed some bottles of the fragrence for some lucky fans.
While that’s all wonderful and fabulous, this look certainly leaves a lot to be desired IMO. Love the hair, but the actual ensemble looks scattered. The accessories, dress, and shoes do not mesh well together. Enough of my rant, BGG would like to know…
IS THIS LOOK A STYLE FIZZLE OR SIZZLE??

Greetings BGG Readers! Soul here with the latest installment of Soul Wants To Know. Just some thoughts on the past week of all things celebrity and more.
So here we go…
1. Why in the hell is everyone acting like Pink is the world’s best performer? Anyone can get up on a trapeze and all. NO ONE CAN DO WHAT QUEEN B DOES!! I REPEAT NO ONE….
2. And speaking of the GRAMMYs, how in the hell did Beyoncé win 6 GRAMMYs and not album of the year? Taylor Swift’s live performance was absolutely the worse I’ve ever seen and if that’s any indication of her album Fearless, then the Grammy powers that be need to snatch that award back.
3. Ok, last thing about the GRAMMYs. I could tell by Keri Hilson’s dress she thought Read the rest of this entry »If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed!

Bayard Rustin. You may not know his name but you should. He was a major figure behind the scenes during the civil rights movement of the 1960’s in the United States. He counseled Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on techniques of non-violence. In fact, Bayard Rustin was the organizer of Dr. King’s 1963 March on Washington, wherein Dr. King gave his ever so revered “I Have A Dream” speech. The organization of an event of that magnitude was no easy feat, yet, few members of the African-American community even know his name, furthermore credit him for the role he played. Bayard Rustin’s sexuality was hardly a secret. Yet, he often held a low-key presence as to not distract the message of the movement or give the “haters” of that time fodder for their subversive agenda.
His humanitarian work did Read the rest of this entry »

The original “We Are The World” track, written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones, is 25 years older with a new cause in sight. The original recording, which aimed to bring attention to famine is Africa and in fact raised $63 million for the cause, has been remade with a whole new set of voices and this time around the goal is relief in Haiti. Produced by Jones and Richie, the 2010 version will feature at least 100 artists including: Read the rest of this entry »
